Chief Executive Officer
Bret Boudousquie joined Stratus™ Medical in July 2019 and is responsible for leading the business to advance RF technology for the treatment of chronic pain. Bret joins Stratus Medical from RadiaDyne®, where he led the business as President. RadiaDyne was a commercial-stage company that developed and marketed medical devices and patient monitoring equipment used during radiotherapy for cancer treatment. During his four-year tenure at RadiaDyne, Bret led the team as they updated all of RadiaDyne’s products, systems, and processes. In early 2018, RadiaDyne launched the award-winning OARtrac® radiation dose monitoring system for cancer treatment. RadiaDyne was later sold in September 2018.
Prior to RadiaDyne, Bret’s career was focused on evolving minimally invasive surgical procedures primarily in orthopedics, spine and general surgery, first with Johnson & Johnson and then with start-up companies. He established a strong track record of success in sales, marketing, and sales management. Earlier in his career, Bret gained practical corporate finance experience as a Commercial Lender with Wachovia.
Vice President, Quality and Regulatory
Jake Wakley is Vice President of Quality and Regulatory, and provides regulatory oversight and guidance for Stratus Medical. Jake also serves as Vice President, Quality and Regulatory for Biomerics and is Director of Regulatory and Quality for Med Venture Holdings LLC. Jake has over 17 years of experience in process and quality engineering, operations management, quality management, and regulatory compliance across multiple medical device companies. He has held key management positions at Compeq International, BD Medical, Edwards Lifesciences, and Biomerics.
Jake graduated from BYU with a BS in Chemical Engineering and earned a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Utah. He is an expert in various disciplines, including risk assessment, root cause analysis, lean manufacturing, and FDA requirements, and has directly developed and managed multiple medical device quality management systems.
Dan Higgs serves as General Counsel and is primarily responsible for the Stratus Medical intellectual property portfolio. Dan is also Chief IP Counsel for Biomerics and Med Venture Holdings. Dan practiced patent law with Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear, LLP in Irvine, California, for two years and then with Stoel Rives LLP in Salt Lake City, Utah, for nine years. During that time, Dan’s practice focused primarily on medical devices, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications and other strategic development of patent estates, due diligence for patent portfolio acquisitions, and validity challenges to competitors’ patents for a variety of medical device companies.
Dan graduated from the University of Utah, summa cum laude, with a degree in applied physics, and received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. Dan is admitted to practice in Utah and California and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah and the Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Chief Financial Officer
Andy Montero is Chief Financial Officer for Stratus and primarily responsible for financial oversight and reporting. Andy also serves as Director of Finance for Biomerics and Chief Financial Officer for Med Venture Holdings. He is responsible for commercial and operational finance throughout the company. Andy has been with Biomerics for the past 3 years and previously worked as our Controller.
He has built a career in financial support of manufacturing operations. Andy has held key finance positions with companies including Lippert Components and Schneider Electric. Andy has built his career on his ERP experience, solid analysis skills utilized in providing data for strategic decision making, and his close ties with manufacturing operations. Andy holds a BS in accounting from Central Michigan University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Utah.
Chairman, Board of Directors
Travis Sessions is CEO of Biomerics and a founding partner of Med Venture Holdings and manages its investment strategy. Travis has over 20 years of business management experience, including business development, mergers and acquisitions, and operations. Travis has successfully started and grown multiple medical device technology companies. He has held key leadership positions at Microsoft Corporation, The Dow Chemical Company, Parker Hannifin Corporation, and Biomerics.
Travis has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. Travis serves on various industry boards and private education organizations including Bio Utah, Salt Lake City’s Lifescience Angels, Brigham Young University’s Industry Board, and American Heritage School.
